My wife has a Focus (14 plate) 1.0 (125 ps) ecoboost. We've had it from 40k, it's now on 60k and has been trouble free. Its nice to drive, it's powerful enough without being super fast. How good is this little 1.0l EcoBoost (125bhp) engine in the Focus? You are indeed correct, the 1.6 Ti-VCT 125PS engine is now only available with the Powershift gearbox. However before the introduction of the 1.0 Ecoboost engine the 1.6 petrol was available in either 105PS or 125PS format. My car was registered in September 2011 and is a 1.6 125PS Ti-VCT engine with a 5 speed manual gearbox. The lineup of Ecoboost engines from Ford offer a great combination of power and fuel efficiency. However, as with just about everything in this world, there’s bound to be a problem child. For the most part, Ford’s turbocharged Ecoboost engines are reliable. There is, however, one that is quite problematic. So much so that Ford even Ford Focus Estate - Ford 1.0 Ecoboost - now safe to buy? - SLO76 : It remains to be seen if Ford really have sorted the fragile 1.0 Ecoboost but currently they have a terrible reputation for failure and even if it has been fixed the trade are wary of it and bidding well under book so depreciation is a concern. Ford’s nearest comparable four-cylinder engine is the 1.6-litre unit used in other Focus models, with exactly the same 125PS power output. The engine pulls very well, and with a 0-62mph time of 11.3 seconds and enough mid-range power to make A-road overtakes safely achievable, contrary to what you might expect, the Focus is an easy car to JGEI.
